The COVID-19 pandemic saw MUN across the world all but shut down. WCDMUN2020 was the last MUN conference to be held on the island of Ireland. It is our hope that WCDMUN 2022 can take place in February. All decisions made in relation to the holding of the conference will be made with the safety of all those attending at the center. We are planning for an in person conference to take place in February 2022. While it is our hope that we can safely hold a conference we keep an open mind that this may not be possible but are planning none the less.
Will WCDMUN2022 take place?
Given current Goverment guidance surrounding mass gatherings and organized events, it is our intent that WCDMUN will take place in February of 2022. We are planing for the conference to be held and in the event that it is safe for us to host the conference we will to do so. However, if in February we feel that it will not be safe for us to hold the conference will not do so. The WCDMUN team will be closely monitoring Government and public health guidance surrounding mass gatherings and will adhere to all guidance at the time. The safety of all delegates, chairs and advisors is at the center of all our decision making.
Will the numbers allowed attend be limited?
A normal WCDMUN conference typically holds over 600 delegates with the addition of chairs, advisors, security and sectaries. In the event that guidance around mass gatherings in February is below this number we may be forced to limit the number of delegates permitted to attend the conference. It is also important to note that an in person MUN conference has not taken place on the island of Ireland for almost two years because of this we are anticipating a higher than usual demand for delegations. We apologize in advance if it may not be possible to facilitate all schools. If at any stage we feel it will be unsafe to hold the conference we will always make the best decision for the safety of everyone involved.
I live in another country/Northern Ireland, will I be able to attend?
Again, this will depend on the Guidance issued by the Government of Ireland surrounding non essential air travel, in the event that the Government is advising against non essential air travel, unfortunately we will not accept applications from foreign schools. The situation surrounding Northern Ireland will also depend on Government guidance concerning non essential boarder crossings and will be examined closer to the time.
