Model UN first began in Wesley College Dublin in 1997 with the first ever 'WCDMUN' held in 2008 with about 80 delegates. Since then, In 2022 we grew to more than 500 people from across Ireland and Europe. Our conference is student lead with our senior students designing the rules and proceeds of the debate with staff overseeing the finances and administration duties.
We welcome young people (12-18) from across Ireland, Europe and further afield to show off their debating skills and knowledge of international affairs. While also welcoming those who are new to MUN to allow them to build up their skills and learn from others in a friendly and welcoming environment.
WCDMUN prides itself on welcoming schools who are completely new to MUN while also awarding those who have years of experience of MUN. We are the only Irish MUN conference to offer a ‘Junior Delegate award‘ for younger students. We are more than happy to welcome students experienced and new to our conference. No student will be put down for making a mistake. We promise to do everything we can to help and assist new schools in learning the complex world of MUN. See our new delegates page for a guide on the rules of MUN or our FAQ section below.
While we are not a THIMUN affiliated conference we follow standard THIMUN rules and procedures. We encourage serious and structured debate, while also placing a strong emphasis on allowing students to socialise in a more relaxed setting during our various ‘relaxed social gatherings’ throughput the conference as well as lunch times and the Disco at the end of the conference. At all times the Charis of committees will do their upmost best to keep debates series and following well while also allowing for less experienced delegates to build up their skills and giving assistance to those who may need it.
For schools coming from further afield, unfortunately we are not in a position to offer accommodation. However, there are numerous hotels in the immediate area that are affordable. The Clayton hotel Leopardstown is often used by many of our international schools and comes highly recommended. It is just 4 stops away from the conference on the LUAS green line (Central Park to Balally followed by a 6 minute walk) . A light rail train service that runs through Dublin. The hotel also run an affordable coach service directly to and from the airport. Click on the blue links above for more details on all of these services.
We would always recommend shopping around for the best prices on flights and accommodation. If you require any assistance or advice on accommodation or transport please don’t hesitate to contact us via the contact form on our website.
Applications for schools who have not attended WCDMUN before are now open. If you have attended WCDMUN before you will be automatically invited to attend again in November 2022. If you have not attended before you can apply here
None! While some background knowledge of how MUN would be beneficial we pride ourselves on welcoming students young and old. We have various resources to help newer students advance their skills while our serious and strong debates allow students with years of experience to show off their skills.
